FYI: The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance is planning a series of forums to seek community organizers’ input on mandatory marriage promotion rules that it expects Congress will include in the reauthorized Temporary Assistance for Needy Families bill. Congress has been dragging its feet on TANF reauthorization, which has been running under a temporary extension since last fall. But OTDA expects that whatever bill finally passes will include a provision forcing states to set up marriage promotion initiatives, so the agency wants feedback on what those initiatives should look like in New York. The New York City forum will be September 9, and participants must register in advance. [8/26/03]
