FYI: Only 23.3 percent of the $6.06 billion in federal contracting funds spent in New York went to small businesses in 2002, according to a House Small Business Committee Democratic caucus report, compared to 62.6 percent that went to large corporations. The House evaluated procurement contracts for 21 agencies to see if the administration is meeting its stated goals for giving more work to small businesses nationwide, and found that they were meeting none. Nationwide, the report charges, small businesses lost $13.8 billion in potential revenue from that failure. Women-owned businesses in New York, which are supposed to get five percent of procurement dollars in New York, got only 2.4 percent of the business, or $148 million. [6/25/03]
