FYI: Only a quarter of the city’s school districts are in compliance with all of the state and city mandates for health education, according to a study conducted by Manhattan Assemblymember Scott Stringer’s office. Sixty-three percent of the districts specifically fail to fulfill mandates for teaching about HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health. Stringer suggests this “utter disarray” may explain why four in ten youth report not using condoms when having sex. [6/24/03]
