FYI: Mayor Bloomberg announced this morning the start of a $25 million parks renovation program, funded by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. Over the next two years, more than a dozen parks and open spaces below Canal Street will get enhancements, ranging from synthetic turf in spaces currently paved with asphalt to new planting beds and canopies along thoroughfares that the plan wants to turn into “Greenstreets.” The effort is part of the mayor’s plan for rejuvenating lower Manhattan, released in December.
