FYI: A group of more than 100 Pakistanis from the New York-New Jersey area were deported en masse last week, most charged with visa violations and arrested as part of local and federal antiterrorism efforts. Immigration and human rights monitors charge that some of the individuals may have had pending appeals, but note that secrecy surrounding their legal cases has made it impossible to track this sort of detail. It was the fourth mass deportation in the last nine months, according to the Coalition for the Human Rights of Immigrants. [3/20/03]
