FYI: Eighty one percent of the nearly 36,000 apartments and condos that will be built or rehabbed under Mayor Bloomberg’s $1 billion housing expansion are for families earning more than $50,240 a year, according to an Independent Budget Office analysis released yesterday. It’s a very different approach than Mayor Ed Koch’s housing plan–90 percent of those apartments were built or rehabbed for low- and moderate-income families. However, the IBO notes, the mayor’s plan does continue current housing spending at $2 billion over the next five years–much of that money will be spent on housing for low income families. [2/27/03]
