FYI: The City Council’s Committee on Technology in Government met this morning to vet a proposed “Extranet” online case management system. A joint project of the Human Services Council and the city’s information technology department, the Extranet would electronically link city agencies to the social service nonprofits that contract with them. Via a secure web site, the agencies and groups could share information about clients, send out and answer RFPs and deal with financial issues. HSC says the system will not only save money and facilitate the relationship between service providers and the city, it will also ease the burden on clients—no longer will they have to run back and forth between city agencies and service providers to explain their situation.
