FYI: Two Queens sewage treatment plants are among the worst polluters of the New York-New Jersey Harbor Bight, the Atlantic Coast curve where eastern Jersey and southern New York meet, according to a recent National Resources Defense Council study. The Jamaica Water Pollution Control Plant violated federal rules 144 times over a four-year period and the LaGuardia Airport Petroleum Bulk Stations violated those rules 98 times in three years. A spokesperson for the city’s Department of Environmental Protection, which runs the plants, told the Jamaica Times the study was unfair because it didn’t account for recent improvements at the facilities.
