FYI: The Green Party and the Brennan Center for Justice filed suit in federal court this week challenging a state law that requires state and county elections boards to purge the party from their rolls. Since the Greens’ gubernatorial candidate, Stanley Aronowitz, failed to get 50,000 votes, state law requires the boards to both remove the party affiliation for those currently registered as Greens and block future registrants from claiming the party. The Greens’ suit argues the law violates infringes on voters’ First Amendment right to political affiliation. [12/12/02]
