According to the Tri-State Transportation Campaign’s analysis of Federal Transit Administration data, fares paid by New York riders cover 58 percent of the city’s bus and subway operating costs. Long Island Railroad riders kick in 51 percent of what it takes to keep their trains running. If you exclude the Bay Area’s long-distance system, that makes New York City transit and LIRR number one and two for fare dependence. [12/3]
