FYI: Mayor Bloomberg launched a massive outreach campaign yesterday aimed at getting 230,000 New Yorkers to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit this year. The Internal Revenue Service estimates 30 percent of eligible New York City taxpayers fail to claim their rebate each year—nearly half a billion dollars worth. The city has partnered with local businesses and media, including Spanish-language publications, in an effort to change that. Ads will appear in local media and utility bills after the holidays and the city will open free tax assistance centers around town. [12/4/02]
