Night Bird Song: The Incandescent Life of Thomas Chapin

Three Centuries of Music for the French Horn

Monthly Jazz Jam

Open Mic: Poetry and Jazz

Global Mashup #2: Japan Meets Puerto Rico

We’re mashing up 2 cultures on 1 stage with an open dance floor! Annette A. Aguilar & StringBeans presents Puerto Rican jazz; and Masayo Ishigure and her group the Miyabi Koto Shamisen Ensemble present traditional Japanese music with a jazz and classical twist. Each band plays a set, then the two meet and jam.

The Same but Different

Presented in conjunction with the Migration exhibition, the process of life-casting leaves with cement will be demonstrated. Leaf sculptures in various sizes and stages of completion will be shown. Participants will learn to make and apply cement mortar mix. Wear appropriate clothing.

Mystic and Glamorous Exhibition of Goryeo Buddhist Painting

April 22 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In partnership with New York Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, Inc., this exhibition features the art works of three contemporary Korean artists: Joy Rock, Chang Ho Kang, and Seoung Jo Hyun, who have inherited and developed the spirit and traditional techniques of Goryeo Buddhist Paintings. The genre of Goryeo Buddhist Paintings is one of the highlights of the renaissance in Korean fine arts during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392).

The Moth StorySLAM: Spring Cleaning

Open to anyone with a true story to share on the night’s posted theme. When the doors open, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth Hat. A half hour later, names are picked, and storytellers take the stage. Ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience who pick the StorySLAM winner. Pablo Mayor’s Folklore Urbano Orchestra: El Barrio Project

Pablo Mayor’s Folklore Urbano Orchestra and Pajarillo Pinta’o dance company team up for a theatrical concert exploring themes of culture, immigration, tradition, and love through music and dance. Pablo Mayor collaborates with choreographer Daniel Fetecua and other composers, with theatrical direction by German Jaramillo (ID Studio Theater). The production is high-energy dancing and modern choreographies based on Colombian rhythms and salsa, theatrical drama, and the smoking repertoire of Pablo’s renowned Colombian arrangements and compositions, highlighting his latest collaborative works.
