HSA Theatre Alliance presents an ambitious new production of the classic Greek tragedy by Euripides, The Trojan Women, directed by the Harlem School of the Arts, Artistic Director Alfred Preisser, an award-winning director/producer.

Originally set after the fall of the ancient city of Troy, this contemporary version takes place in the here and now – post the destruction of a thriving city like New York. The Trojan Women, the sole survivors of a ruined community, the spoils of an endless war that has resulted in the extermination of their men, await their fate at the hands of their conquerors. The looming question becomes – which conquering hero will claim them for inevitable enslavement? The play has especially deep meaning in the current global landscape, in which civil wars and bitter religious strife continually threaten the liberty and safety of women.

The production brings together a technically skilled cast of students and professional actors, resulting in some unintended but exciting surprises that heighten the natural tension expressed in this timeless tragedy.
