The evening, which is free and open to all, begins with light refreshments and some brief mingling. Then a panel discussion will explore the benefits and challenges in accepting private money to fund our public parks. Philanthropy can cover the gaps in government-sponsored park funding, giving us a greener and more fun filled New York. But is our reliance on that money causing us to relinquish control over how our parks are run? Speakers represent a range of views on that question. And after they weigh in, audience members are invited to join the discussion. Speakers include: Mark Levine, Chair, NYC Council Committee on Parks; Deborah Marton, Executive Director, NY Restoration Project; Noreen Doyle, Executive Vice President, Hudson River Park Trust; Susan Lerner, Executive Director, Common Cause NY; and Cathryn Swan, Huffington Post and Washington Square Park Blog.
