Dixon Place’s (Ellie Covan, Founding & Artistic Director) new commission POUND, starring GLAAD Award-winner and Drama Desk nominee, Marga Gomez, will begin performances on Friday, July 10th. Once called “Amazing” and “A Lesbian Lenny Bruce” by Robin Williams, POUND will headline Dixon Place’s 24th Annual HOT! Festival, the celebration of queer culture in NYC. HOT! offers theater, music, dance, puppetry, performance and homoeroticism for the whole family. POUND will play six performances only – July 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th at 7:30PM, at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 at the door, and $12 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.dixonplace.org or by calling 866-811-4111.
Written and performed by Marga Gomez and directed by David Schweizer, POUND is a hilarious journey in which Gomez plays herself & a delicious coterie of cinema’s most notorious lesbians. Facing unwanted celibacy, Gomez scours dating sites and fortuitously opens a portal to a cloud-based female-loving Bermuda Triangle where notorious lesbian cinematic archetypes (plumbers, showgirls, murderers and school teachers) hook up in spectacularly “meta” ways.
