Gateishi Takako Hida

With her art, Takako Hida seeks to pinpoint the ephemeral:
the snowflake that falls only to melt quickly on the palm of a hand; the dull
light that rises just before dawn; the fleeting moments of life that remain
etched into our minds. From her time as a child growing up in Osaka, Hida had
found a deep interest in nature: its colors, curves, textures, smells, sounds,
and how it all connects with the earth. She has felt equally inspired by the
beauty of relics left behind all around the world and in Japan: caves,
wall-paintings, Japanese castles, Buddhist statues, temples with paintings on
fusuma (sliding doors) and ceiling paintings. However, much beyond observing,
Hida is interest in these things lies more in their “created
circumstances.”
Having immersed herself in the process of
creation since her childhood, and starting to paint in earnest early in her
teenage years, Hida is familiar with art in many forms. Beginning with oil
painting, she soon began to explore other mediums and techniques such as
etching in hopes of realizing her own distinct style and expression. By the
latter part of her teenage years she started looking more towards the elements
of Japanese-style painting. Approaching it with her own manner of expression
she underwent a process of trial and error, while continuing to pursue
her own technique.
Recently with the contribution of works
in pencil, Conté crayon, and charcoal, Hida's work has progressed toward
a combination of elements and technique that defines her style today. In search
of the warmth within transience, Hida creates to occupy the space that opens in
the wake of the world come to life. Wherever it may be, it is this fleeting
idea itself that she works to preserve, allowing it to continue to bring the
world warmth.
