New York Documentary, ‘Under Contract,’ Premiere February 1

February 1 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

| FREE

The film, called Under Contract, examines how corporate poultry production pits farmers against each other and traps them in a vicious cycle of debt. The documentary features the stories of farmers such as Craig Watts, a North Carolina-based poultry farmer who made headlines in 2014 for exposing the deplorable conditions Perdue imposed on his chickens; Mike Weaver, who speaks out against rigged contracts used by his employer Pilgrim’s Pride; and Genell Pridgen, an independent poultry grower who previously raised chickens for Case Farms.

All of the farmers featured in this film are risking industry retaliation to tell their stories of being locked into opaque contracts with massive financial risks, often leading to bankruptcy. The event is free and open to the public by RSVP.

The film was featured on John Oliver’s show Last Week Tonight. Those interested in attending can register here: rafiusa.org/undercontractfilm/premiere/
