Full of energy and anticipation, a group of 13 Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) graduates from Miami Florida’s premier arts conservatory, New World School of the Arts’ (NWSA) College Theater Division head to New York City in search of their big Broadway opportunity. During their week-stay the students will showcase their talent to a group of more than thirty talent agents and scouts, many of who are already familiar with the level of artistic excellence demonstrated by NWSA’s students and alums. This year’s journey to NYC includes an exceptional artistic component, which has the group of soon-to-be actors elated. Established actors KATE FINNERAN and NATALIE GOLD, both alumni of the Theater program of New World School of the Arts, have agreed to offer their valuable time to their younger peers in a one-hour Q&A session. For almost a decade, the College Theater program at NWSA has taken its BFA class on this life-changing journey to NYC. “The goal in the theater division is to prepare our students for professional careers in theater, the showcase offers the first step for students to meet, interact and network with agents and casting directors in New York. It also is an opportunity for students to experience, for the first time, professional auditions when casting agents send them to callbacks for Broadway and Off-Broadway castings. Many of our alums are working in theater and film today due to the NYC showcase helping to launch their careers,” said Patrice Bailey, dean of theater at NWSA. Of past showcases Mari Lyn Henry said “What the actors from New World School of the Arts brought to their New York City showcase is a combination of excellent training, a well- organized selection of scenes, monologues and songs which were totally appropriate for their physicality, age range, and talent and an enthusiasm and passion for the careers they have chosen to pursue. The industry professionals-agents, managers, and casting directors who were there are still referring to New World’s showcase as one of the best they have ever seen.” The NWSA theater program is dedicated to training exceptionally talented and committed students interested in pursuing performing careers in the theater. The program concentrates on the actors training, delving into fundamentals of physical and emotional preparation, and the achievement of truthfulness and expressive person on the stage. The music theater program, in addition, emphasizes Music Theater, singing, dance and choreography. Students work with an ambitious repertory centered on twentieth century material through private voice lessons, vocal ensemble classes, music theater workshops and studio and full-scale productions. The NWSA presenting actors include: Gloria Cardona, Selena Castellon, Daniel Cruz, Christopher Ferrer, Jessica Gorwky, Mark Guardamino, Icela Guernica, Michelle Hernandez, Krystel Mill, Eduardo Morales, Sarah Rumbaut, Casey Sacco, and Kelly Ziegler.
