At SHARE we are marking our 40th anniversary of women supporting women with breast and ovarian cancers. We will celebrate cancer survival and our accomplishments with laughter and comradery. On Tuesday, March 15, 2016 we will gather in the Grand Ball Room of the Yale Club for a festive lunch and speaker program featuring comedic and inspiring survivors. Our emcee and key speaker will be Joyce Wadler, humorist and writer. SHARE volunteer and advocate, Roberta Gelb will also speak. (Other speakers to be announced at a later date).
SHARE is a nationwide community that brings support, information and the benefit of
experience to women of all ages, races, and backgrounds facing breast and ovarian cancers,
and their caregivers.
Our services, including survivor-led helplines and support groups, are designed for women from diverse backgrounds. All of our programs are offered in English and Spanish. In addition, help is available in 15 additional languages through SHARE’s helplines.
SHARE began in 1976. That year, with the urging of their treating physician, a small group of breast cancer survivors set out to find effective ways of sharing with others what they had
learned through their cancer journey. SHARE is now one of the most experienced and
innovative providers of outreach, education, and support programs for women with breast and ovarian cancers. Our services touch over 32,000 people each year. Our founders – and
SHARE’s current staff and volunteers – know firsthand the fear, stress and anxiety that
accompany a cancer diagnosis. We understand the complexities of medical options, the
difficulties of treatment schedules and side effects, and a multitude of related life, health, and social issues that will be faced by the newly diagnosed patient. Research supports what we at SHARE experience every day: social support services can positively influence health outcomes and quality of life for individuals with cancer who have access to such supportive services.
