Free Walking Tour “From Independence Day to Evacuation Day”

July 2 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

| Free

This Independence Day weekend, join historian Fred Cookinham on a free walking tour through the historic Flatiron District. On the special tour “From Independence Day to Evacuation Day”, visitors will learn how the War for Independence ended in Flatiron. This Day, when the British evacuated Manhattan, is known in history as Evacuation Day and has been celebrated in New York City until the mid-1800s. The walking tour explores some of the city’s most notable landmarks, including the Flatiron Building, New York Life Insurance Building, MetLife Clock Tower, and Appellate Courthouse. Tours take place rain or shine every Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m., and meet at the southwest corner of Madison Square Park (in front of the William Seward statue) at 23rd Street and Broadway. No advance registration is required. Tours are provided by the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID).
