Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition

May 21, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - May 22, 2016 @ 6:00 pm

BWAC’s 25,000 square foot gallery is in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. The vista of New York Harbor, spanning the Statue of Liberty to the Verrazano Bridge is one of the best in the city. Our 18,000 annual visitors also enjoy the nearby restaurants, bars, IKEA and Fairway Market. With every medium and style of artwork represented, as well as the Un-Plugged in Red Hook free weekly music performances and Saturday afternoon Screening Room programs, our shows are as spectacular as the setting.
SPRING IN ROODE HOEK
BWAC will honor New York’s early history of the colonization of New Amsterdam and the Dutch contributions which are still so much a part of NYC today. New Amsterdam was a multi-ethnic city of opportunity – it was that diversity which distinguished it from the other settlements founded by the British and the Spanish…and it continues to distinguish us still.
WIDE OPEN 7
We are excited to announce our seventh annual national juried art show, Wide Open 7, opening May 7, 2016. And again this year, we are privileged to have another of NY’s art elite as our juror, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s, Beth Saunders, Curatorial Assistant. With her guidance and selections, we look forward to another spectacular show.

RECYCLE 2016
Recycle, the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition’s national juried show of art crafted from cast-off, discarded, and re-purposed materials, will be a celebration of ingenuity and imagination. We are seeking to exhibit sophisticated two- and three-dimensional art created in the re-use genre. To help us in this quest, we are greatly honored to have as our juror, Harriet Taub, Executive Director of Materials for the Arts. As well as looking for skill in the use of material, we want to see art that demonstrates the importance of conserving our limited natural resources. We look for how well the medium relates to the upcycling movement and how fully the artist’s intention or concept is presented and realized. The juror’s awards will reflect that artistic judgment.
