Annie’s Shakespeare Shakedown: HAMLET

An interactive and immersive way to experience Hamlet in an East Village bar.

Annie’s Shakespeare Shakedown’s HAMLET invites the audience into the world of the play. The audience are treated as members of the court and are integrated into scenes throughout the night. Actors perform the traditional Shakespearean text as well as improv in real time with audience members. Guest of the court are invited to drink at the bar while we see Hamlet speak to the Ghost of her father. In between scripted scenes guests are encouraged to get life advice from Polonius, teach Rosencrantz and Guildenstern how to bow, swap jokes with Osric the gravedigger or comfort Ophelia. VIP tickets get you a bag full of goodies to facilitate one-on-one interactions with characters throughout the night. Want to know what Hamlet’s love letter really said? Want to know if Gertrude loved King Hamlet before he died? Want to offer tribute to Ophelia’s grave? All of these goodies and more can be found in the custom Dio de los Muertos VIP bag.

You are cordially invited to the Celebration of the Grand Coronation of the New King Claudius. But something is rotten in the state of Denmark and hidden in the winds of change are whispers of treachery, deceit, and bloody murder. Join us for a night of revelry, and help the young Hamlet unravel the mystery of her father’s death.

Immerse yourself as actors spin wildly through the party, blending Shakespeare’s poetry with improvisational interactions — soliciting advice, inciting mischief and even inviting you to play along. Pay tribute to King Claudius. Have a drink with Horatio. Offer flowers to Ophelia. Get advice from Polonius. Trade jokes with the Gravedigger. Come to castle Elsinore and become a part of the show!

What does a VIP ticket get you? You get a Hamlet Dia De Los Muertos tote bag filled with backstory goodies. In the bag are small props that speak to the backstory of each of the characters are facilitate one-on-one interactions that are only available to VIP’s. A ring the late King Hamlet gave to Gertrude before they married, flowers to leave at the grave of Ophelia, a flyer from Laertes fight in France, and many more items that will inspire the actors to take you aside and confide in you.

We’ll be doing something fun and new for Hamlet!

We are going to try out Loyalty Cards.

What does this mean? It means if you come 3 times with regular admission then the 3rd time you get upgraded to VIP. And if you come 3 times as a VIP… well… then you get something really special, you get to have a permanent character in the Hamlet universe. Love being Polonius’s servant? Want to be dubbed Reynaldo forever? DONE!
