City Limits’ Helen Zelon won a 2012 Front Page award for in-depth magazine journalism for her comprehensive reporting on the city’s Family Court system, the Newswomen’s Club of New York announced this week.

Other honorees include Judy Woodruff of CNN and reporters from The New York Times, Daily News, BBC, WNYC and other major outlets.

Zelon was author of the May/June issue of City Limits magazine, which presented a five-chapter investigation of the family court system, from the judges who decide custody and child support issues, to the courtrooms where claims of abuse and neglect are judged, to the juvenile justice system. It was the final print issue of City Limits magazine after 36 years; City Limits (and its companion sites Brooklyn Bureau and the soon-to-be-relaunched Bronx News Network) is now all digital.

A Brooklynite who has written for City Limits since 2007, Zelon previously won recognition from the New York Community Media Alliance and the Education Writers of America for her coverage of education.
