FYI: Senate Democrats, led by Manhattan State Sen. Liz Krueger, are charging Albany’s Republican leadership with parsing out funding for after school programs along partisan lines. According to a Krueger spokesperson, in late September the state Office of Children and Family Services notified several community groups that run after school programs that they would face budget cuts or total elimination this year. Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, however, reallocated $1.6 million to keep a number of those programs alive through the year; Democrats charge he used the money only in Republican districts. All of the programs that faced elimination in Republican-represented Long Island and Westchester got new funds, but only three of the city’s 14 programs were saved, two in the Bronx and one in Manhattan.
