FYI: The city added 352 electric cars to its fleet yesterday, donated by DaimlerChrysler. The cars, dubbed “general electric motorcars,” have nearly zero emissions and are powered by batteries that are charged via any standard 110-volt outlet. The city first began using the multipurpose cars in parks and large wastewater treatment plants earlier this year, and will add the donated vehicles to that fleet. They’ll also be used on large university campuses, Department of Transportation garages and on Governor’s Island. [11/20/03]
