FYI: The House narrowly passed an amendment to its bill funding Section 8 vouchers next year that added $150 million, restoring thousands of vouchers that advocates had warned would be cut by the original bill. New York Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Nydia Velazquez introduced the amendment after the Appropriations Committee passed a funding bill that a Center for Budget Policy and Priorities analysis argued would cut 85,000 vouchers currently in use. CBPP had said the original White House proposal for Section 8 funding would have cut 184,000 vouchers in use, an assertion the administration has challenged. Based on that CBPP analysis, the House bill passed Friday would still cut around 63,000 vouchers. [7/29/03]
