FYI: The company that handles donations made through Network for Good, an e-philanthropy site that collects donations for over 12,000 nonprofits in New York, suddenly went out of business Monday. The California-based company, PipeVine, managed third-party donations to nonprofits, mostly through payroll deductions. While Network for Good officials say PipeVine’s closing will have little or no impact on the nonprofits that use its service, PipeVine was still in possession of donations made through it during April and May at the time of its closing. The California attorney general’s office is looking into the fate of those donations, and Network for Good says it is fully committed to retrieving them, which it hopes to do month. [6/5/03]
