FYI: The city Department of Transportation is kicking off a study of truck routes around town, a move that neighborhood and planning advocates have been clamoring for since the late 1990s. The city originally planned to re-map truck routes primarily with the aim of speeding truckers through town, but advocates pushed for an effort to also reduce their impact on neighborhoods. In addition to upcoming forums for community input on the re-mapping process, DOT has set up an online survey where residents can chime in, available on its web site at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/home.html.
