FYI: The New York-based Child Care Action Campaign has announced that it will cease operations at the end of May, on the 20th anniversary of the organization’s founding. CCAC President Faith Wohl cited both the proliferation of organizations dedicated to child care advocacy and the issue’s shift from a national to a locally driven policy question as reasons for the group’s end. CCAC was founded in 1983 to advocate for a national commitment to more, better and cheaper child care. “We take deep satisfaction in the fact that the issue of child care has been taken up by many others, including business groups, government agencies, and a multitude of other nonprofit organizations,” Wohl said in her statement announcing the close, acknowledging that this proliferation has made it difficult for her organization to compete for scare resources.
