FYI: A group of tenant activists in Chinatown is suing the NYPD seeking to stop the department from further restricting access to streets and public spaces in the neighborhood. Tenants from the Chatham Towers and Chatham Green residential complexes planned to file suit in state supreme court today. Following 9/11, NYPD began blocking off streets near its headquarters at the top of Park Row. Before NYPD blocks off more streets or spaces, the residents say, it should consult with the community and provide written statements explaining why and for how long it will restrict access to a given area.
