FYI: The state and city comptrollers each released reports yesterday calling Mayor Bloomberg’s preliminary budget, released in January, overly optimistic. City Comptroller William Thompson’s report predicted that the coming fiscal year’s deficit will be $3.9 billion, half a billion more than Bloomberg estimated. State Comptroller Alan Hevesi’s report, meanwhile, criticized the mayor’s reliance on funds that are unlikely to exist–such as a commuter tax and union contract concessions. [3/4/03]
